Announcing the Garmin 496: Garmin’s new GPSMAP® 496 fly/drive portable.
With the Garmin 496 in the cockpit, pilots can fly safer and smarter. Never before has a portable aviation GPS put so much power at your finger tips like the all-knowing Garmin 496. Similar to the 396, the Garmin 496 has spectacular satellite weather that is overlaid onto a detailed terrain colored map with alerting.
Throw in new features like a noticeably faster processor (5HZ to be exact), taxiway position, AOPA Airport Directory, altitude sensitive alerts, enhanced situational awareness, and a built-in automotive kit giving you the ability to take your Garmin 496 from your plane to your car and you’ve got yourself the greatest portable handheld GPS in the history of aviation.
Announcing the Garmin 495 - Garmin’s new GPSMAP® portable.
Are you one of the many pilots who wished that Garmin had a version of their 496 but without the weather? Or one of the many who wished that there was a version of the Garmin 296 that has the speed and features of the 496? If you are, Garmin has made your wish come true.
The Garmin 495 is the newest member of Garmin's GPSMAP® aviation family. The 495 has all the same features as Garmin's popular 496 unit, but without the weather and City Navigator (automotive navigation).
A truly portable MFD, the new Garmin 396 combines color moving map and terrain alerting features with the latest in satellite datalink weather. An integrated GXM 30 smart antenna makes the satellite connection, enabling the unit to receive and process XM Weather and flight safety products.
In addition to offering the outstanding features and operation of the Garmin 296, the Garmin 396 allows pilots to display NEXRAD, Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), METARs, TAFs, Winds Aloft, and many other useful weather products through a subscription with XM Radio data services. Speaking of XM Radio, the audio and entertainment from XM Satellite Radio is also available via an audio jack on the unit. An additional subscription is required for XM Radio entertainment.
What more could you ask from a GPS portable? How about displaying TIS traffic when interfaced with a Garmin GTX330, and channeling a Garmin SL30 Nav/Com by highlighting a frequency on the Garmin 396 and pressing the enter button.
The Garmin 296 takes Terrain awareness to a whole new level with its bright 256 color LCD screen and self contained topographic database. The Garmin 296's map-based nav detail is unsurpassed among portable GPS systems.
Tropic Aero has brand new Garmin 296 units in stock. We also carry used Garmin 296 units, but our supply varies from day-to-day. If we do not have them in stock today, please check back soon or call 888-280-9272 to be placed on a waiting list.
The Garmin 196 is a powerful aviation portable that acts like a panel but goes from cockpit to land to water without missing a beat. With its crisp, grayscale screen, the 196 is an affordable introduction to Garmin's portable aviation products.
Enhance Situational Awareness
The WAAS-capable Garmin 196 has detailed map graphics, HIS steering guidance, Jeppesen® database and all the other pilot-friendly features you’ve come to expect from Garmin. Steering guidance is clearly presented through a graphic HSI with VNAV indicator offering a full range of horizontal and vertical awareness. Extended runway centerlines help orient pilots to the runway. The 196 even supports a comprehensive U.S. database of obstacles (upgradeable via the Internet) to help you see and avoid high-rise structural hazards in the vicinity of your flight path.
